Description:

In den späteren Jahren des Wilden Westens will der Spieler John McCabe (Warren Beatty) in einer aufstrebenden Kleinstadt einen Amüsierbetrieb samt Hurenhaus hochziehen. Da er davon wenig wirkliche Ahnung hat, kommt ihm die Bekanntschaft von Constance Miller (Julie Christie) , einer professionellen Puffmutter nur recht, so daß der Betrieb bald floriert und sich die Profite geteilt werden können. Auch die beiden kommen sich näher, doch nicht auf der emotionalen Ebene, die McCabe zwar fühlt, aber nicht ausdrücken kann. Als eine große Gesellschaft auf das Unternehmen aufmerksam wird, drängt Mrs.Miller auf einen Verkauf, doch McCabe weigert sich zu lange. Schließlich werden drei Killer auf ihn angesetzt...
