Beschreibung:

Durch die idyllische, winterliche Hochlandschaft der bayrischen Alpen rattert ein deutsches Militärflugzeug. Es ist Krieg, der Zweite Weltkrieg. Eine Luke öffnet sich, Männer mit Fallschirmen stürzen aus dem Flugzeug und landen auf einer verschneiten Hochebene. Es ist ein alliiertes Sonderkommando, das den Auftrag bekommen hat, einen wichtigen, amerikanischen Offizier aus der Burg Falke zu befreien. Diese gilt als uneinnehmbare Festung, von deutschen Elitetruppen schwer bewacht und im Zentrum jener Alpen liegend. Doch schon bei der Landung geht etwas schief, ein Agent stirbt und der Anführer (Richard Burton) stellt fest, das war kein Unfall. Doch das verheimlicht er, genauso wie den anderen verschwiegen wird, dass nach ihrem Sprung eine junge Frau (Mary Ure) aus dem Lagerraum des Flugzeuges erschienen ist und ebenfalls sprang. Es ist nicht die einzige Überraschung, die dem Kommando erwartet und es ist nicht das einzige Geheimnis, das vor ihnen gehütet wird. Nicht nur, dass der Verdacht nahe liegt, der Einsatz sei von langer Hand geplant worden und zwar unabhängig von der Entführung des alliierten Offiziers, sondern auch weil so ziemlich alles anfängt, schief zu laufen. Eines steht schon bald fest, ein Maulwurf befindet sich in ihren Reihen und es scheint um weit mehr zu gehen, als nur um den amerikanischen Offizier...
